Description

“Giannakochori” was named after the village of Giannakochori, in the area of Naoussa where Mr. Yiannis Boutaris purchased an area of 500 acres in 1968. The first Xinomavro plantings that took place there in the early 1970s marked the revival of the area’s vineyard: two decades later, this place gave its name to a blend that was pioneering for its era. The first bottles were marketed in 1995 as “Boutari Estate in Giannakochori” and contained a 70% Xinomavro and 30% Merlot wine. Now, after two decades, what was then considered as an innovation today is one of the classic Greek wines. In 2011 he gave Xinomavro ripe, balanced and with great aging potential. This excellent crop, the 20th for Giannakochori, will be called “Last Vintage”. With it, the course of a wine is completed and, at the same time, the beginning of a new era is marked: perhaps at its best, Giannakohori finds its position at the center of the history of the Kir-Yiannis Estate, innovates and, while changing, remains classic . Kir-Yiannis Estate was founded in 1997 by Yiannis Boutaris. In its vineyards (Naoussa and Amintaion) the emphasis is on the native varieties – mainly the noble Xinomavro. Today, the Estate Group, under the guidance of Mr. Stelios Boutaris, works on the basis of innovation, respect for tradition and specialized knowledge of wine, from the vineyard to the final consumer.
